Tearing Out Your Hay-r

Tearing Out Your Hay-r

While driving to a meeting, I heard a topical news story about a farmer. In the interview, he said that he had tried to buy hay from Victoria, but was frustrated by “red tape”.

It seemed that drought relief applied for hay bought in NSW.

But there is no hay in NSW, he said. 100% of NSW is in drought.

I can’t comment on the intricacies of drought relief for farmers, but I am an expert in unravelling red tape to help business get on with just that… business.

Australia has a complex regulatory framework – we have Federal, State and Local Government. In case that isn’t complicated enough, there are special bodies established by law, like many local water providers.

Having worked in government developing legislation for many years, I appreciate that law-makers are committed to creating high quality law.

However, there are times when legislation does not operate as intended. The technical term we use is “unintended consequences”.

Unintended consequences arise due to the complex relationships between international, federal, state & local laws with standards, business practice & ever-changing IT systems. When pressing issues require urgent resolution, there is less time for consultation and unintended consequences may result.

This farmer didn’t have to put up with red tape or unintended consequences. And neither do you.

Unravelling Red Tape can help you get to the core of red tape issues, including working with government to remove unintended consequences, giving you the freedom to pursue your business, like here.
